Online Grocery Survey: October 2020

In the fourth iteration of Chicory’s quarterly grocery shopping surveys, we glean valuable data from over 600 Americans on how their online grocery habits and preferences changed prior to the coronavirus pandemic to present.

We began this process in January 2020 and conducted subsequent surveys in April 2020, July 2020 and finally, October 2020 in order to quantify shifts in online grocery usership.

This survey indicates that Walmart leads in the online grocery wars, with Amazon coming second. Overall, online grocery usage has continued to increase, but this time around, the changes in list-building and checkout frequency tell an interesting story about how consumers think about online grocery services in relation to their regular brick and mortar grocery shops. Finally, consumers are making smaller online grocery purchases overall.
